Juventus had recently announced that an agreement had been reached with Sampdoria over the transfer of Czech forward Patrik Schick, but the deal is now doubt.
Everything looked set for the transfer of the young forward with Juventus looking ready to pay €25million for 21-year-old. The transfer seemed like a risky move from the start given the high fee associated with it. Nonetheless, Juve seemed at ease with spending this much money on a player that some dubbed to be the “new Ibrahimovic”.
The transfer now looks in jeopardy with the Italian champions delaying the deal following the player’s recent medical tests. Speculation was rife that the tests had revealed some medical issues not known prior to the negotiations. As a consequence, Juve would have asked to renegotiate and set up a one-year loan spell before a full-time transfer could be agreed upon.
Obviously, this is not what Sampdoria was hoping for and they’ve made it clear that losing €25million is not what they envisioned when deciding on selling the player. Sampdoria’s owner Massimo Ferrero criticized Juve’s way of doing business and says that his team will not wait for long. “It’s a farce,” Ferrero tells reporters at Secolo XIX. “He’s not healthy, he’s really healthy. What they found is the equivalent of a cold!”
Ferrero says he believes that things should eventually work out as planned with Juventus. However, if it does not, Sampdoria has other options to sell the player and can potentially make an even bigger profit. “If Juventus want to back out, we’ll sell him to one of the other four clubs that are ready to buy him. I think he’ll eventually go to Juventus. If not, we’ll take him back and add a nice ‘maybe’, given his release clause has now expired and we can sell him for not just €30m but possibly €40-50m.”
