Emil Forsberg recalled his time playing with Zlatan Ibrahimovic for Sweden’s national team. He jokes that Ibrahimovic can be annoying with his demands on himself and others.
Emil Forsberg got the chance to play with Zlatan Ibrahimovic from 2014 to 2016 for Sweden’s national side. Now playing for RB Leipzig, he recalls his experience of learning from the famous striker. Also, he recalls being annoyed by Ibrahimovic’s constant desire for his teammates and himself to improve.
Speaking to Spox Forsberg remembered: “Zlatan can be incredibly annoying. When you have had a bad training session, he keeps on approaching you and bothers you with questions why you trained so badly, how it is even possible to train that badly and why you were not focused. Some of it is joking around and some of it is serious.”
“But that’s the way he is, he always wants to win and pushes those around him to new heights. He is not playing some sort of character, he simply is the way he is. He really is the king in Sweden, that is not an exaggeration. Nobody can even compare to Zlatan. He can get away with anything he says, but there is no-one else like that. He has created this situation himself with his consistently strong performances.”
Forsberg says is pleased to have played alongside one of his heroes. The Swede’s only regret is that Ibrahimovic took the decision to retire from international football. As of 2016 Ibrahimovic is retired from Sweden’s national side. “Zlatan always was my role model when I was a child. It is incredibly cool to have played with him and it is a pity that he retired from international football.”
At the moment Ibrahimovic is recovering from a knee injury. The player was expected to sign an extension on his deal with Manchester United. Wasting little time, Ibrahimovic became one of the club’s most important players on his first season in England. Football fans can only hope for a swift recovery.
