Capping off a terrific career
Antoine Griezmann’s career is one that has seemingly moved from strength to strength. He begun as a consistent forward for Real Sociedad, moved on to be one of the most famous players in the world playing for Atletico Madrid, and then won the World Cup trophy with France in 2018. Many would argue that Griezmann is due some recognition.
And while other players may be favorites for the Ballon d’Or award set to be given out this December 3rd, the Frenchman says he feels no shame in admitting he dreams of winning the prestigious individual accolade.
“I’m not afraid of saying it. I dream of the Ballon d’Or, of the Champions League, of winning the World Cup. I dream of a lot of things. I dream of having three children. Those dreams motivate you when you wake up each morning and you have goals to achieve,” ,” Griezmann tells ESPN FC reporters.

Is the Ballon d’Or even that important? The French forward certainly believes so, singling it out as the the greatest individual award a football player can receive.
“On a personal level, that’s the highest you can get. It’s the most historic award, the most prestigious one. However, I also am a player who thinks collectively over individually.”
“But it would be nice for myself, because of everything I’ve gone through, especially after having to separate myself from my family at three years old,” the player says.
Who are the favorites to win the Ballon d’Or
Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been dominant in their victories for over a decade. In fact it was 2007 the last time either one of the two failed to win the award, going out to Brazil’s Kaka. But if the other, recent award ceremonies are any indicator, the award may go out to reward good performances in the World Cup.
Luka Modric would then be the favorite to win the award, after serving as the leader of Croatia’s team surprisingly made it to the World Cup final. Modric’s performances this season, have been poor, however, on par with those of his Real Madrid teammates.
Kylian Mbappe is also among the favorites, having been integral to France’s World Cup victory and playing exciting football at club level. Mohamed Salah and Kevin de Bruyne are also among those with a chance of winning, although the odd makers would consider them outsiders for the 2018 edition.
