Eredivisie has picked up steam in recent years. No longer just a league where future stars prepare for the big time, the Dutch Eredivisie is making its claim to becoming, soon, one of the top five leagues in Europe.

Goalkeeper
Nick Olij (Sparta Rotterdam)
Nick Olij makes the Team of the Year by the fact that he has improved the terrible defending record of a Sparta Rotterdam team desperate to avoid relegation. Still, Olij has been one of the team’s best performers. It does make one wonder what he thinks of his attackers.
Defenders
David Hancko (Feyernoord)
David Hancko is one of the more established players in the Eredivisie. In 2024, he was also the best defender in Eredivisie fantasy football. Hanko has put up great defensive stats, as well as excellent passing throughout.
Mats Deijl (Go Ahead Eagles)
Mats Deijl is a really good defender in an average-looking Go Ahead Eagles team. Deijl’s commitment, consistency and ability to play within a system have made him a part of the Team of the Year.
Gijs Smal (Feyernoord)
Another Feyernoord defender makes his way into the Team of the Season. Smal has often come on as a substitute but clearly has done enough to rack up points in fantasy football contests.
Rodrigo Guth (Fortuna Sittard)
Brazilian 25-year-old Rodrigo Guth might be eyeing something a little better than a place in a mid-table Dutch team. But his performances this season may recommend for better things. I’d sign the reference.
Midfielders
Tobias Lauritsen (Sparta Rotterdam)
Lauritsen has been, besides the team’s keeper, the other ray of light for this Spart Rotterdam side. The Norwegian midfielder has scored 4 goals and assisted one in the new season. His willingness to take risks and to jump into physical duels makes him earn a spot in the Team of the Year.
Sem Steijn (FC Twente)
Twente are, as usual, working their way slowly toward a place that could guarantee them participation in European competitions. Steijn is the team’s most inspired player. At 23 years, the Dutch midfielder has the long-range shot of someone who might be scoring howlers for a long time to come.
Joey Veerman (PSV Eindhoven)
Peter Bosz‘s PSV Eindhoven has been the top club in the Netherlands for a while now. And Joey Veerman has established himself as an indispensable player. Veerman’s arsenal of passing, dribbling and long shots show why he is a Dutch international and one of the best fantasy football picks that you can make.
Kenneth Taylor (Ajax Amsterdam)
In 2024, Ajax Amsterdam, the most successful Dutch side, was confronted with a terrible crisis of identity. One of the players who did manage to maintain the team’s well-known standard was midfielder Kenneth Taylor. The 22-year-old grew into a leader. Taylor is one of Dutch football’s best young players without a doubt.
Attackers
Luuk de Jong (PSV Eindhoven)
They don’t quite make players like Luuk de Jong anymore. In 2024, the veteran striker proved that age was simply a number for him. The striker brought his experience and enthusiasm to lead this PSV side. In the 2024/25 edition of the Eredivisie, he has already scored 9 goals and assisted 5. De Jong is one of the best players active in the Netherlands.
Santiago Gimenez (Feyernoord)
Santiago Gimenez is a striker who can always be depended upon to terrorize defences. He managed 16 goals across all competitions in the 2024/25 season. But it is the Mexican attackers’ overall presence that makes him earn a place in the Team of the Year for Eredivisie fantasy football. At 23 years of age, a nice career is on the horizon for Gimenez.
