High Scoring Midfielders Run the Show
If you really want to win, become obsessed with the scoring system. That’ll tell you who to pick!

Sure, it’d be great to find a defender who scores every week. But what are the chances of that happening?
In the 2024 season, the top three fantasy soccer players were midfielders. Yes, Christian Benteke was the top goalscorer overall. However, Denis Bouanga received many more points overall. So did Gabriel Pec and Luciano Acosta – all of the midfielders in the game.
Start scouting out attacking midfielders who, in the starting 11, create goal-scoring chances and are known to take them.
Find Goalscorers and Stick with Them
Consistency is the key! Many players, especially from overseas, impress in their first weeks in the MLS. But can they keep it up?
Dante Vanzeir of New York Rell Bulls scored in the playoffs. But he had months of goal drought. Matías Cóccaro drove CF Montreal fans crazy.
And even Christian Benteke, the MLS top scorer, had consecutive weeks where he could not find the net.

Scout the penalty takers of each team. Remember that the top sides tend to get more penalties across a season.
Great Goalkeepers Aren’t Always on the Great Teams
Yeah, the best teams in the world can afford the best keepers. But if the defence of that team is doing its job, the keeper won’t have to do theirs too often.
In the 2025 MLS season, great keepers could be defending the goal of teams that are always in danger of conceding. For example, last season, Brad Stuver impressed even though Austin FC was a mess.

Messi and Zaha Are Great, but Remember Your Budget
Major League Soccer is great entertainment! That’s why it’s winning over global fans. But the big stars aren’t always your draft’s friends.
Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez or Wilfried Zaha are likely to have great seasons. But getting them on your team may exhaust your budget.
Look for more affordable alternatives for the big stars! Last season Cristian Espinoza and Diego Rossi outperformed Messi in fantasy soccer. And both players are still free in FootballCoin.
