There’s rarely been a better time for the Football Manager enthusiasts busy scouting the world for an undiscovered gem or for a potential wonderkid. Great talent seems to come from every area, country or city nowadays. But, surprises are often in-store even when it comes to the world’s top football leagues.
Today we carry on with our series. Here are 3 other sleepers from the world of fantasy football. These players have surprised us and left their mark on the game.
Danny Ings
We’ve talked about him before. Only that on that particular occasion we felt that Ings‘ transfer to Southampton was bound to fail. After all, his recent performances did not suggest a different ending to the story.
We couldn’t have been more wrong and have apologized since. Ings has been something of a goal machine, managing 9 strikes in the Prem and 295 points in FootballCoin. A great example of sleeper pick, Ings looks to have finally found his place in football. At 27 years of age, his career is in for a resurgence.
Southampton Usual Starting 11: A McCarthy, J Bednarek, R Bertrand, J Stephens, C Soares, P Hojbjerg, N Redmond, M Djenepo, J Ward-Prowse, D Ings, S Long
Habib Diallo
Diallo is the sleeper goalscorer to a team that is sleepwalking. This season, the Senegalese player has scored 9 of FC Metz’s 14 goals. It’s this that makes him a contender for the Top Scorer award in Ligue 1. It’s not that Diallo was not a proven marksman. He has indeed scored 26 goals last season. Only that he managed all those goals in Ligue 2 and, in fact, had put the ball in the back of the net only once in the top tier. Habib Diallo is a sleeper hit and 24 years of age, great things may be in store for the player.
FC Metz Usual Starting 11: P Delecroix, F Centonze, M Udol, S Sunzu, J Boye, T Delaine, M Fofana, A Traore, T Ambrose, D Maiga, H Diallo
Martin Odegaard
Ok, fair enough. Odegaard has likely been one of the most famous names in football for years now. But, before this season, the only time the Norwegian came up in football-related conversation, it had to do with Real Madrid’s bizarre move for Odegaard before he was even out of teens.
This season saw a fresh loan deal for the midfielder. Previously, he had earned experience in the Dutch top tier. This year, he made his move back to La Liga, playing for Real Sociedad. He’s been one of the best players in the league in his position, managing a whopping 476 points in FootballCoin. With or without Real Madrid, Odegaard is finally on his way to becoming an elite player.
Real Sociedad Usual Starting 11: Remiro; Zaldua, Llorente, Gorosabel, Monreal; Portu, Odegaard, Guevara, Merino, Oyarzabal; Willian Jose
