UEL dreams alive and well in London
Football fans love a bit of drama don’t they? They certainly got it with the latest Europa League knockout round. Never was this more clear than in Arsenal’s 2nd leg match against Rennes. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the Londoners’ hero. The striker scored twice in a well earned 3-0 victory.
The first match had given Hatem Ben Arfa the chance to get one past his former manager, and longtime enemy, Unai Emery. But, Emery, who has won the competition before with Sevilla, ultimately got the last laugh.
Emery’s former side, Sevilla, are surprisingly out of the race for the trophy. Going ahead at their expense is Czech side, Slavia Prague. The score was 2-2 after 90 minutes, and the game went into extra time. The score was once again tied to 3-3 before the final whistle. But, calamity struck the La Liga side in the 119th minute, Ibrahim Traore securing the winner.
Another Premier League side, Chelsea, makes it’s way, comfortably into the Quarter-Finals. Goals from Olivier Giroud and Callum Hudson-Odoi helped Maurizio Sarri’s team to a 5-0 victory over Dynamo Kiev. It ended 8-0 on aggregate.
