They say that the English Championship is the toughest football competition in the world to win. Looking out at some of the legendary teams battling it out, you can certainly see why this is the toughest second-tier in the world.
But what about Championship fantasy football? FootballCoin hosts every game. And after 2024 fixtures, I’ve assembled a Team of the Year that takes into account all of the essential stats.
2024 English Championship Team of the Year
Goalkeeper
Viktor Johansson (Stoke City)
Stoke City has had a miserable year. The 2024/25 season has been particularly dire. But were it not for goalkeeper Viktor Johansson, things would’ve likely been much worse.
The best keeper in the Championship registered a save rate of 75%. If you had watched Stoke this year, you’d know that this was taking to performing a magic trick.
Defenders
Jayden Bogle (Leeds United)
Jayden Bogle has put in confident displays for a Leeds side eyeing promotion and bossing the Championship this season. The defender’s stats are stellar. One way or another, he will be playing in the Premier League soon enough.
Ciaron Brown (Oxford United)
Ciaron Brown is the pick of the litter of an average, untroubled by relegation Oxford United. The 27-year-old even registered 3 goals and 3 assists along the way. It helped to make him one of the best fantasy football picks for the Championship.
Sam Greenwood (Preston North End)
Preston North End is another team fighting to keep things together. But youngster Sam Greenwood is using the opportunity to make a name for himself.
Technically a defender, Greenwood, is a player capable of also playing in a more advanced role when needed. This is how he scored 5 goals throughout this season.
Pascal Struijk (Leeds United)
Pascal Struijk has stuck with Leeds United through thick and thin. And his loyalty paid off this season. Not only was the Dutch defender consistently in the team’s starting eleven. But his performances have drawn praise. A good addition to your fantasy football draft.
Midfielders
Borja Sainz (Norwich)
I’ve talked about Borja Sainz several times before. But this is because he is one of the most impressive and entertaining players in the league.
He has scored 15 goals across the 2024/25 season. Norwich will need to come up with a mighty impressive offer if they wish to get the Spaniard to stay with the Canaries.
Josh Brownhill (Burnley FC)
Burnley is seriously contemplating what Premier League life might be like. This is mighty good news for Josh Brownhill. This midfielder has a goal sense. He’s scored 9 in the Championship this season and would like to do the same when playing against the big boys.
Azaz Finn (Middlesborough FC)
It’s been an up-and-down trip for Middlesborough in this Championship campaign. But if you were looking for a dependable midfielder for your fantasy football squad, you couldn’t have done better than Azaz Finn. The Irish youngster has scored 8 and assisted 9, and largely been stellar.
Brenden Aaronson (Leeds United)
Branden Aaronson is another player that you may be surprised to see spending time in the English second tier. But Aaronson has been working hard to power Leeds back to greatness. The American is developing into a strong playmaker. It’s now Leeds’ season to lose.
Attackers
Josh Maja (West Bromwich Albion)
The 26-year-old Nigerian, Josh Maja, has shown why scouts everywhere might want to attend a West Brom match or two. Maja has scored 12 goals in the 2024/25 season. And more looks to come.
Jaidon Anthony (Burnley FC)
Jaidon Anthony is, frankly, a relative surprise addition to the Championship Team of the Season. No, he is not a goalscoring machine. He is, on the other hand, a very versatile player. That’s what fantasy football managers who picked him across the season found out.
