It was certainly an uphill battle , but AC Milan’s players narrowly managed to edge out Genoa, for a 2-0 win. The victory leaves the Rossoneri in fourth place in Serie A. Here is how the game played out, the teams’ top players in fantasy football and their latest transfer news.
Milan’s playing isn’t exactly sparkling, but their close victory to Genoa maintains them in the running for next season’s Champions League competition. Their style is at times frustrating. But there are moments when Milan’s talented squad works well together. Entry into the Champions League next season, would showcase the team’s slow, but steady rise back among Italy’s top clubs.
Last night’s goals were scored late in the game. Fabio Borini was on call to slide in from close range Lucas Paqueta’s cross. Then, Suso took advantage of an agile counter-attack to double the score. But, both teams enjoyed chances, with youngster Gianluigi Donnarumma needed to save some critical shots on target for his side.
Winning generates positivity, well done Rossoneri 🔴⚫

FootballCoin top performers
Gennaro Gattuso may not be entirely satisfied with the squad he has had to assemble. But, the team’s significant spending spree of a couple years back, has left the club with a very good selection of players. Their not yet as effective as may be wished though. It is telling then that last night’s top performer in FootballCoin was wonderkid Gianluigi Donnarumma, who managed 49.39 points.
Chelsea loanee Tiemoue Bakayoko, is enjoying his time in Italy. He managed 38 points. Some will surely be wondering why the Frenchman has so far been deemed unfit for Sarriball. A narrow third place is earned by Ricardo Rodriguez. The Swiss defender, who is free in FootballCoin and has managed 37 points.
On Genoa’s side, their top player was veteran Domenico Criscito. He managed 34 points, continuing his successful season for I Rossoblù.
The big absentees and the likely AC Milan transfers
The biggest headline before the match had to do with the two sides’ most strikers being absent, but for different reasons. Krzysztof Piatek was out due to suspension. As it turns out this could be convenient for the Polish forward who may soon be a part of … Milan’s squad. It’s been reported that Genoa’s board has agreed a move for the sum of €35m.
If the deal does go through, Piatek will be expected to replace Argentinian striker Gonzalo Higuain, who was missing for undisclosed reasons. The reasons are most likely pertaining to Higuain’s impending transfer to Chelsea. The Premier League side has been without a suitable goalscorer and has recently announced plans to part with Alvaro Morata, set for Atletico Madrid, leaving the door open for Higuain.
The Serie A returns on Saturday. AC Milan face one of the league’s best sides, Napoli. Meanwhile, Genoa close out the matchweek when they play away to Empoli. Don’t forget to register in the free FootballCoin contest counting for the Serie A for a chance to be rewarded with XFC cryptocurrency.
