Fantasy Brasileiro Campeonato football did not disappoint in Week 1, in spite of goals being beyond uncharacteristically few and teams choosing to play it safe for now.
Some of the stars showed up, and others were not even in the squad. And some rookies put on displays that will surely attract suitors.

Top Picks on Day 1 of the Fantasy Brasileiro Campeonato Football
Weverton (Palmeiras) – GK – 31.5 points in FootballCoin
It was the rarest of Brazilian derbies – the kind where no goals are scored. Palmeiras, arguably the country’s finest side, and Botafogo, the team that actually won the championship a month ago, played out a 0-0 derby.
But who were the stars of the encounter? The goalkeepers! Weverton was the Man-of-the-Match, saving a few near-impossible shots and allowing Palmeiras to go on fighting another day.
Victor John (Botafogo) – GK – 31.5 points in FootballCoin
Now, Victor John was the goalie who impressed at the other end. There was nearly as much action for him. Both sides had nine shots on target each.
John saved them all and confirmed my initial decision to include him on the list of the best Brasileiro fantasy football goalkeepers ahead of the 2025 campaign.
Tinga (Fortaleza) – DF – 27.1 points
Another prediction I made was that Fortaleza would do well and even improve on last season. It was indeed one of the Northerners’ defenders who was the team’s top player. But it wasn’t David Luiz (who got only a few minutes as a sub), but Tinga.
Tinga scored the winning goal against Fluminense. The defenders’ tackles and victories in air duels make him a player that the Selecao should also monitor.
Gilberto (Bahia) – DF – 25.5 points
I did say that Bahia was a team that could outperform most other clubs. This time, however, it is against Corinthians, another side with great midfielders.
Bahia had to suffer for a 1-1 draw. And it was right-back Gilberto, who also scored the team’s goal, who was the symbol of that.
Nuno Moreiro (Vasco da Gama) – MF – 24.35 points
Vasco da Gama, arguably, got off to the best start of the 2025 campaign of any Brazilian team. The 2-1 victory against Neymar’s FC Santos wasn’t merely a signal of intent. It was clear proof that the team’s recruitment policy is working.
In a team that included Dimitri Payet and Philippe Coutinho, Nuno Moreira was the most impressive midfielder. The right winger was excellent in possession and contributed greatly to the team’s victory.
Gustavo Scarpa (Atletico Mineiro) – MF – 24 points
Gustavo Scarpa has proven, once again, that a return to the Brasileiro Serie A might well have been a step forward. The former Nottingham Forest midfielder used his technique and speed to give the Gremio player a near-permanent headache.
Atletico MG did end up losing this game. But Scarpa put in a strong performance, which will make manager Alexi Stival hope that with a few adjustments, his team can achieve much more next time around.
Pablo Vegetti (Vasco da Gama) – FW – 28 points
There’s excitement in the Vasco da Gama camp after the display against Santos. Vegetti was the team’s top performer, helping the Vasco crawl back from a 1-0 deficit.
One assist and the winning goal helped the team secure an important victory. It’s a performance that should make Brazilian fantasy football managers pay notice.
Gabriel Bill Taliari (Juventude) – FW – 27.4 points
It was Gabriel Taliari who gifted Juventude a comfortable victory over Vitoria. But, frankly, he’s not the striker I thought we’d be talking about at the end of Week 1 of Campeonato Serie A.
However, the 27-year-old was sensational throughout and seemed to take offence at all of the public’s interest in strikers like Neymar or Memphis Depay (both of which didn’t even play a minute).
