Fantasy football success is all about evaluating potential. This means spotting the players on their way to greatness, as well as those on the decline.
We’ve all been tempted by big-name stars when choosing our teams. This doesn’t always guarantee success.
Here are some of the players that have performed poorest in fantasy football, as well as in their respective football leagues, during the 2022/23 season.
Michail Antonio (West Ham) – 232.4 points
West Ham used to challenge for top Premier League spots not long ago. What happened this season?
For one thing, their shooting has been atrocious. With a 25% rate of shots on target, there’s plenty of blame to go around.
While Gianluca Scamacca could find himself on the list, we’ll focus on the more experienced and famous Michail Antonio.
Had you chosen the Jamaican all season long, you would have earned a measly 232 points and the disappointment of seeing him score just two goals.
Dele Alli (Besiktas) – 116.35 points
The Turkish Super Lig is hosted by FootballCoin contests. This must’ve, naturally, made fans of Tottenham relish the opportunity to use Dele Alli for their Turkish fantasy football team when the midfielder arrived at Besiktas last summer.
Much has been said about Dele Alli‘s poor form. Many have called it a fall from grace. Sadly, there’s little yet to discount these ideas.
The former wonderkid has thus far failed to turn his career around. His first performances in Turkey were, in fact, downright poor.
Still, there’s a silver lining. Alli scored an important goal and put in a good performance against Alanyaspor at the end of January.
The player is a long way from the days when he was scoring memorable goals against Real Madrid. At 26 years old, however, there may still be opportunities available to change his career for the better.
Leandro Paredes (Juventus) – 169.65 points
Paredes may have just helped Argentina win the World Cup. Arguably, he is also one of the most efficient and aggressive defensive midfielders in the world.
His transfer from PSG to Juventus so far hasn’t worked as well as his international career. This has coincided with a sharp change in fortunes for the Serie A giants.
Leandro Paredes has made 14 appearances for I Bianconeri, most of them from the bench, with little to show for his time on the field.
Koke (Atletico Madrid) – 353 points
The performances of a team leader usually reflect those of the team itself. Koke is a legendary player and one of the most noteworthy midfielders in La Liga.
Had you chosen the 5*-rated player in FootballCoin this season, however, you would have been disappointed.
Koke made just two assists in a season that has, at times, been miserable for Atletico Madrid.
Andrea Belotti (AS Roma) – 96.7 points
Andrea Belotti had turned many important sides down in the past. His commitment to FC Torino seemed unshakable.
This is why his transfer to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma was particularly intriguing. This was, in no small part, due also to Roma’s solid policy of squad improvement. Many notable players have arrived at Stadio Olimpico.
Surprisingly, Belotti’s transfer has yielded little success. In his 18 appearances in Serie A for the Giallorossi, he has failed to score a single time.
Renato Sanches (Paris Saint-Germain) – 237 points
Renato Sanches has been flirting with greatness for quite some time. He was integral to Portuga’s success in the 2016 Euro tournament. He’s played for Bayern Munchen and Lille.
A resurgence in form last season earned Sanches a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, one of the most high-profile teams in Europe.
While his performances have not been catastrophic, they’ve certainly not been brilliant either.
Parisian fans will hope that Sanches, Fabian Ruiz, and Vitinha will switch into high gear in time for the Champions League fixtures against Bayern Munchen.
