It’s bound to be a strange and exciting season in Serie A. Many of the top-tier clubs have gone through changes this summer. Fans were offered their first opportunity to witness those this weekend. Here are the top fantasy football performers in Gameweek 1.
Rui Patricio’s confident debut display
Most players require some time in order to find their footing at a new club. Not Rui Patricio. The former Wolves keeper made his debut for AS Roma and was the best performing goalkeeper in the league. Manager Jose Mourinho has vowed to instill defensive discipline in the Giallorossi. The opening shows a lot of promise. Noteworthy was also Mike Maignan’s performance, another debut.
Fans of Italian football will be very familiar, however, with the top defenders on the opening day of the season. Lorenzo De Silvestri, Milan Skriniar, Cristiano Briraghi, and Nicola Milenkovic gave plenty of reasons for Fantacalcio managers to have them in their sights. De Silvestri, in particular, was exciting to watch as he scored a brace for Bologna that earned Sinisa Mihajlovic’s team the victory against new kids Salernitana.
Zaccagni and Marian justifying major interest
Hellas Verona was the surprise package of last season. Mattia Zaccagni was one of the team’s leaders. His name has constantly been introduced in the transfer gossip columns. His brace against Sassuolo, in spite of Verona’s defeat, will further help stake his claim.
Former Ajax Amsterdam player, Razvan Marin, also enjoyed another good performance for Cagliari. The player managed an assist and seemed comfortable as the team’s playmaker. Teammate Joao Pedro also makes it on to the list after scoring twice. Hakan Calhanoglu, a player who has switched allegiances between Milan clubs this summer, rounds off our midfielder picks.
Two Serie A cult heroes, Paulo Dybala, and Edin Dzeko were the most in-form strikers in the opening day games. Both provided an assist and a goal. Both look like the kind of players that managers will look to build teams around in the new season.
