Lionel Messi once again spearheaded Barcelona’s Champions League victory . But, despite the Argentinian breaking an important goal record, there were three other players scoring even higher in this round of the Champions League. Let’s find out which ones.
Angeliño (PSV Eindhoven)
You have to hand it to PSV. The Dutch side looked determined last night and put in their fair share of chances against Barcelona, despite being bottom of their group. They dominated the early part of the game and could easily have taken more from the game.
Messi was once again Barcelona’s top player, scoring and acting as the team’s leader. His goal also meant Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of goals scored in the UCL for a single club (106) has now been overtaken by the Argentinian.
But there was a different player that, according to FootballCoin stats, was the best man on the pitch. Angeliño, PSV’s left wing-back, was responsible for assisting de Jong for his goal, made a goal line clearance, and earned 62.2 points, more than Messi’s 61.5 points. At only 21 years old, Europe’s top clubs have no doubt taken notice.
Taison (Shakhtar)
Taison, one of the biggest Brazilian stars to have stuck with Ukraine’s Shakhtar through the years, enjoyed a marvelous game against Bundesliga’s Hoffenheim. It was an up and down game for the Eastern European side, with the team being wasteful of their 2-0 lead, for which Taison had contributed a goal.
And while Hoffenheim were looking dominant in the second half, Shakhtar held on to the score, before Taison put in the finishing touch, scoring in the closing stages of the game. The late victory leaves the Ukrainians hopeful of the final group match, one in which a victory at home against Lyon would see them through.
Ismaily (Shakhtar)
Ismaily is perhaps a surprising winner, but the Brazilian, one of many that have played for Shakhtar in recent seasons, garnered the highest number of points in FootballCoin of any players taking part in this Champions League round.
How did Ismaily score better than world-class superstar Lionel Messi, or his teammate, Taison, the man responsible for two goals? Well, Ismaily contributed greatly to numerous areas in his team’s play, and made few mistakes in his attempts.
Ismaily scored his team’s first goal, had four shots on goal, numerous successful passes, two good crosses, and helped create two goal chances. This helped him accrue plenty of names, 71, to be precise. At 28 years of age, and with 5 full seasons behind him in Ukraine, the question is how long will he remain a member of Shakhtar’s team.
