Jayden Nelson (Vancouver Whitecaps)

An obvious choice, sure. But you’ll find it hard to keep your team competitive at the moment without a few Vancouver players in the draft.

Nelson has been the W’caps’s top player throughout the first matches of the campaign. No player has scored more non-penalty goals or has a high xA (expected assists) quota.

Consider Nelson for your fantasy MLS soccer team. Vancouver takes on Chicago Fire in a game in which the Canadians are clear favourites.

Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders) fantasy soccer mls

Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders)

I like the Seattle Sounders. I know that they haven’t been spectacular. But I still think that they can be the surprise package of the season.

Roldan is not the team’s MVP. But he is a defender that will make your life as a fantasy soccer manager easier. He’s offensive-minded, brave, and would jump in front of a hurtling train if that’d be attacking the Sounders’s goal.

Kelvin Yeboah (Minnesota United)

Minnesota United’s four games have revealed a few surprising details about the team from Northern U.S.A. It’s a sturdy squad. It can use sheer force of will to grind out results. And judging by the display against Kansas City, it scores goals as easily as concedes them.

Minnesota has two really good strikers this year. The first is Tani Oluwaseyi. The other is Kelvin Yeboah.

Yeboah looks particularly impressive. And as Minnesota take on the wealthy but woeful LA Galaxy, the Italian striker will most likely be handed some goal-scoring opportunities.

Gabriel Pec (LA Galaxy)

It’s hard to say anything positive about LA Galaxy at the moment. But here it goes: Pec is still a great player looking to save a team that’s on the brink of catastrophe.

The Brazilian has been the sole player to put in anything resembling coherent performances. I don’t expect LA to win against Minnesota. But Pec is a consistent performer. If you’re seeking a budget midfielder option, this may be the way to go.

Nicolas Lodeiro (Houston Dynamo) fantasy soccer mls

Nicolas Lodeiro (Houston Dynamo)

There’s plenty of misery in Houston as well. But, in all fairness, Dynamo’s woes were more predictable than, say, those of LA Galaxy.

But Nicolas Lodeiro, one the most experienced players in the MLS, has been doing his job right every week. Lodeiro’s passing is still dependable. He gets all his shots on target. And, the Uruguayan veteran provides Houston with leadership it needs.

Dynamo won’t feel very confident as it travels to Seattle this weekend. But come rain or shine, you’ll expect Lodeiro to perform.
