Underrated strikers in football have become a rarity. Usually, the best strikers are well-known, and their services are worth a fortune.
Speculation about football transfers for forwards like Kylian Mbappe or Victor Osimhen is nothing new. Still, there are forwards across Europe’s top leagues that, even though they have shown their class, don’t get the coverage they deserve.
Today we’re crunching the fantasy football stats and looking at the most underrated forwards in European football across 2023.
Boulaye Dia (Salernitana)
Boulaye Dia‘s 16 goals scored for lowly Salernitana in last season’s Serie A is nothing if not stunning. However, the high profile of players like Victor Osimhen or Lautaro Martinez forced the Senegalese’s achievements into the background.
Dia greatly outperformed his 8.8 xH and managed 6 assists along the way as well. These achievements were likely the reason why Salernitana narrowly avoided relegation. And this is all why Boulaye Dia is a target for English clubs this Summer.
Vedat Muriqi (Mallorca)
Vedat Muriqi had a sensational season in La Liga. At 29 years of age, the Kosovan striker managed 15 goals for Mallorca. You’d think that these kinds of stats would make the news. However, with Antoine Griezmann, Karim Benzema, or Alvaro Morata registering similar figures, there seems to have been little time to praise Muriqi.
We’ll do it anyway and confidently add Muriqi to our list of the most underrated strikers in the world in 2023.
Loïs Openda (Lens)
Openda outscored the likes of Lionel Messi or Wissam Ben Yedder last season. His 21 Ligue 1 goals at the tender age of 23 are nothing short of impressive. And While these performances have earned him a transfer to RB Leipzig, a club that’s turning into a factory of stars, you’d think there’d be more hype for this exceptional Belgium talent.
Anastasios Douvikas (FC Utrecht)
Anastasios Douvikas has just won the Eredivisie Golden Boot. But in all the careful analysis about Feyernoord’s winning side, or Ajax’s struggles, Douvikas’ achievements have seemed to get lost in the shuffle.
It’s unfair, considering that the Greek is only 23 years of age and scored 19 goals and provided 4 assists. Stranger still is that while the striker is listed by Transfermarkt at 9 million Euro, no top club has yet made a move for Douvikas. However, if the striker manages to keep this up, he will simply become unignorable.
Ademola Lookman (Atalanta)
Ademola Lookman is a clear example of the fact that bad news travels faster than good news. Last season numerous pundits were quick to criticize Lookman’s performances for Leicester City in the EPL. This year, his 13 goals for exciting Atalanta have gone largely unnoticed.
The Nigerian may not be getting the same coverage as fellow countryman, Osimhen, but like the Napoli striker, Lookman is an exciting, explosive player.
