The Best Goalkeepers in the Premier League in the 2023/2024 Season

By Eduard Bănulescu

The best goalkeepers in the Premier League seem able to do it all. They can pass like the best midfielders can or stop the world’s top strikers when left one-on-one in the final minute of the game.

Choosing the very best in the most competitive league is no easy task. However, using Footballcoin statistics, I’ve come to a definitive list for the 2023/2024 season.

The Best Goalkeepers in the Premier League in the 2023/2024 Season

Lukasz Fabianski (West Ham United)

West Ham United fans are pretty demanding nowadays. So much so that they’ve often overlooked just how well the team has performed over recent years. Lots of this is due to manager David Moyes and to long-serving keeper Lukasz Fabianski, who, despite becoming a second-choice keeper for Alphonse Areola, deserves some appreciation.

andre onana

Andre Onana (Manchester United)

Andre Onana is a controversial pick. Yes, Manchester United’s defensive record hasn’t been worse since the 1970s. But, perhaps, that’s where the former Inter Milan’s skill has come in. Onana started out his career poorly in the Premier League. In the 2023/2024 season, however, he has a save percentage of nearly 75%. That’s the second-best in the league, regardless of the fact that United has conceded nearly as many goals as teams that have been relegated.

Mark Flekken (Brentford)

Flekken has shown to be one of the best EPL goalkeepers despite playing from one of the poorer teams in the league. Like Onana, he has had plenty of work to do. Unlike Onana, Flekken’s contributions have often been underappreciated. Flekken has made over 100 saves this season at a save percentage of 67%.

Alphonse Areola (West Ham United)

West Ham United are one of the most difficult-to-crack defences in the EPL and one of the least exciting attacking teams. Areola has earned himself the #1 spot. The end of the season also marks the end of an era for The Hammers. And his 74.4% save rate proves all of this.

David Raya (Arsenal)

Arsenal have been excellent this season. David Raya’s form has been wobbly. Still, he’s done enough to earn the starting spot ahead of Aaron Ramsdale and has made some incredible saves along the way. Greater consistency will be needed to continue playing at the top level, but Raya deserves a place among the Premier League’s best goalies for 2024.

Gugliemo Vicario (Tottenham)

Like Ange Postecoglou and other of his teammates, Gugliemo Vicario has had moments of brilliance but not the ability to lead the team to the league’s elite group of teams. Vicario has a save percentage of 67%. Still, some of his shot-stopping has endeared him to the club, fateful looking for a proper replacement for the great Hugo Lloris.

Ederson (Manchester City)

When Pep Guardiola replaced Ederson for Stefan Ortega in the all-important EPL game against Tottenham this week, the Brazilian keeper yelled, screamed, then cried. It’s been an emotional 12 months in which Ederson, like his teammates, has needed to be nearly perfect. He’s been up to the task most of the time. And while this may go down as his poorest season since coming to Europe, winning another EPL title would prove Ederson’s worth and that of The Cityzens.

Alison (Liverpool)

Alisson, like Jurgen Klopp or his Liverpool teammates, has often been among the best in the world this year. However, he’s also shown to be tired and prone to injuries. He’s started less than 30 games this season. And although some mistakes have snuck in, he is still one of the very best in the league.

Jordan Pickford (Everton)

Truth be told, Everton aren’t a very exciting team, and this has been the case for a while. As one of their leaders, Jordan Pickford has come to represent all that’s good and bad about The Toffees. The fact, however, is that Pickford remained one of the best EPL keepers in 2024, with a nearly 75% save rate, and that his place in the England national team setup is not up for debate.

The Best Goalkeepers in the Premier League in the 2023/2024 Season

Emiliano Martinez (Aston Villa)

Emiliano Martinez is a crazy man on the field, a keeper capable of sensational saves and terrible mistakes. Martinez has just set a new record for his own goals. But, during the past year, Emiliano Martinez has also won the World Cup for Argentina and brought Aston Villa kicking and screaming into the Champions League. Not a bad year!
